Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General Questions About Starting Services 

How do I know if my child needs speech or occupational therapy?  It is recommended for an evaluation if your child is not meeting developmental milestones, if you have concerns about their development, or if a pediatrician or teacher has expressed concern about their progress.

Does Planting Skills Therapy take insurance? What insurance companies are in-network? Planting Skills is currently in the process of becoming credentialed with insurance providers. In the meantime, we are offering services at a self-pay rate. Please call us today to learn more or discuss your options.

Insurance, Costs, and Payments

What if I don't have insurance or my insurance doesn't cover therapy? There are self-pay rate options available. 

What is the process for getting started with therapy? You may request a complimentary 15-minute screening with an occupational therapist and/or speech-language pathologist to discuss your concerns. This screening will help determine whether a full evaluation is recommended. Please note: A prescription or referral is required before scheduling a full occupational or speech therapy evaluation.

Referrals and Evaluations

Does my child need an evaluation before starting therapy? Yes, every child needs to be evaluated prior to ongoing treatment. 

What happens after the evaluation? During the evaluation, the therapist(s) will work with you to develop treatment goals and recommend the appropriate frequency of therapy sessions. If you are using insurance, please be aware that your insurance provider may require prior authorization before services can begin. If authorization is not required, you may start therapy as recommended by your provider.

What happens if there is no availability with my schedule? Due to high demand for after-school appointments, we recommend flexible scheduling to help ensure timely access to services. To support scheduling and continuity of care, family members and/or family friends are welcome to bring the client to appointments. However, we do require contact information for each individual involved in the client’s care.
